White Water Rafting

Guanacaste

Also Available from La Fortuna

Based near Arenal Volcano, La Fortuna is another incredible base for white water rafting in Costa Rica. The Balsa River offers exciting class 2–3 rapids through lush tropical jungle — perfect for families and first-timers — while the Sarapiquí River delivers more intense class 3–4 thrills for those seeking a bigger rush.

Rafting from La Fortuna gives the trip a very different feel from a Guanacaste beach day. The setting is greener, the pace is fuller, and the whole outing is built around river time rather than around the coast.

La Fortuna rafting starts from $105 per person. Price varies by river and group size.

All equipment, certified guide, and transport to the river are included.

About This Tour

This tour is for travelers who actually want a rafting day, not just a quick activity add-on. Expect roughly 8 miles of class 3–4 rapids with a more physical pace than the family-friendly Balsa option.

Between rapids, the river slows enough to appreciate the canyon and watch the banks for wildlife. Sightings vary, but the calmer stretches are part of what gives the day some breathing room between the harder sections.
